Halcyon · Instrument Nº 1
Vesper.
A bedside instrument that shapes the light and sound of a room across the night — composed, machined, and tuned by hand in Copenhagen. For people who treat rest as a discipline.
From the Halcyon notebook — entry one, on rooms after dark.
01 — Position
The night is the last unengineered room.
Phones became alarm clocks and alarm clocks became phones; somewhere in the trade, the bedroom filled with light and noise that do not belong to it. Halcyon makes the opposing argument — that rest is a discipline, and that the instrument matters. Vesper does one thing: it composes the light and sound of your room across the whole night, and then it disappears. Not an app. Not a mattress. An object, built to outlast the nightstand it sits on.
02 — The Night Programme
Four movements, one night.
Vesper runs a twelve-hour score for the room. Once tuned at setup, it asks nothing of you — no screens, no settings, no decisions after dark.
Ember
The room warms to 1,800 kelvin. Blues are retired; edges soften.
Descent
Light thins toward candle-level. Sound narrows to a low, broadband hush.
Deep Field
Near-dark. A tuned floor of pink noise holds the room at library stillness.
First Light
Ninety minutes before waking, an amber tide returns. No alarm. You surface.
03 — Craft
Built like an instrument, not an appliance.
An object you keep for decades should be built like one. Vesper is assembled in our Copenhagen atelier from fourteen components and four materials — aluminium, brass, wool, glass — each chosen for how it ages in the dark.
- 01
Housing
Milled from a single billet of 6061 aluminium, bead-blasted, then hard-anodised in umber. It will scratch once, in year nine, and you will know why.
- 02
Dial
One control. Solid brass, knurled, weighted to a measured resistance — like a well-damped potentiometer, because it is one.
- 03
Acoustic face
A wool-blend textile from a Danish mill, acoustically transparent and replaceable — after a decade of nights, not a season.
- 04
Light engine
Six phosphor-blend emitters behind opal glass. No visible point sources, no flicker, nothing to remind you it is a machine.
04 — Specifications

05 — Availability
An edition of five hundred.
We are making five hundred Vespers, each numbered and entered in the Halcyon register. When they are gone, the design is retired — we would rather make the next thing well than this thing forever.
